Zero Chip-Out 1/4" Down-Cut Spiral Bit — Furniture-Grade Edges, Every Pass

Splintered top edges ruin an otherwise perfect project. The 1/4" Down-Cut Spiral Bit pulls wood fibers downward as it cuts, leaving a clean, factory-smooth top surface — no chip-out, no sanding, no do-overs.

Solid carbide construction keeps the edge sharp through furniture builds, joinery, and detailed engraving alike, so it's a bit you'll reach for on nearly every project.

Great bit. Will buy again!

What is a 1/4″ down-cut spiral bit used for?

Furniture, joinery and detailed engraving where the top edge matters. It pulls wood fibres downward as it cuts, so you get a clean top surface with no chip-out.

What speeds and feeds should I use?

Start at 18,000 rpm, 80 ipm feed and 40 ipm plunge. Results vary with material and machine rigidity, so adjust from there.

How deep can it cut?

Cut length is 1.125″ on a 2.5″ overall length. Need more reach? Our 1/4″ Long Cut Down-Cut has a 2.0″ cut length.

What collet size does it need?

A 1/4″ collet. Cutting diameter and shank are both 1/4″.

Should I use a down-cut or an up-cut?

Pick the down-cut when a clean top surface matters most, like visible edges on furniture. Pick an up-cut when fast chip clearing in deep cuts matters more.
